Kyiv’s Solomiansky district court has closed the criminal case against Ukraine’s Infrastructure Minister Volodymr Omelyan, who was accused of illegal enrichment, because of the decriminalization of the crime,” the Infrastructure Ministry’s press service has said.

“The illegal enrichment case and the arrest of property lifted. As regards the possible inaccurate declaration (of assets), the case will be considered in a lawsuit. We are sure of our innocence,” Omelyan’s Spokeswoman Maryna Tomko said.

The ministry cited as an example the case of Romanian Transport Minister Răzvan Cuc, who was forced to resign because of the fabricated political accusations of the Romanian Anti-Corruption Directorate in 2017. Cuc defended his good name in all courts and returned to his position two weeks ago.

As reported, on March 20, Ukraine’s Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) said it was preparing a decision not to prosecute Omelyan, who had been charged with illegal enrichment and the declaration of inaccurate information.
