Law enforcement officers have detained a suspect in an attack on former political prisoner of the Russian Federation, public activist Volodymyr Balukh.

“Kyiv police detained a suspect in the attack on Volodymyr Balukh on the night of Sept. 8. Details are in the statement of the police and the prosecutor’s office,” Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov said.

As reported, Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov said that former political prisoner of the Kremlin, public activist Volodymyr Balukh was beaten on the night of Sept. 8. According to him, Balukh was conscious, his arm and collarbone were broken, and there was no threat to his life.

The police in Kyiv reported that the 49-year-old victim was hospitalized with bodily injuries from Kyiv Hydropark, he was found to have no mobile phone and bank card.

Later Gerashchenko said that Balukh was in intensive care.

On Sept. 16, a former political prisoner, journalist Roman Suschenko said that Balukh was in a serious condition, the physicians put him into a state of a medically induced coma.
