Leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Alexander Zakharchenko was killed by an improvised explosive device planted inside the café, his advisor Alexander Kazakov has told journalists.
“It was an improvised explosive device, its main principle of action – a blast wave and fire. The blast occurred as they were walking into the café, the device was planted above the door inside. The bodyguard, who walked first, was killed instantly. Alexander Vladimirovich [Zakharchenko] was second, followed by another bodyguard and the DPR minister of revenues and duties, Alexander Timofeyev,” Kazakov said.
The device may have been planted the night before and was activated remotely, he said.
“It was planted, as terrorists say, ‘for good luck’ and it was planted there the day before,” Kazakov said.
