More bad news for those who like fast internet and live in Ukraine.
The country has second-rate internet speed, according to the annual Worldwide Broadband Speed League ranking published by British consumer telecoms analyst Cable.co.uk on July 10.
Ukraine placed 58th out of 200 countries regarding the speed of its internet, with Greece one place ahead and Cyprus one behind. That’s four positions lower than in 2017.
Ukraine’s regional peers of Russia, Moldova, Kosovo, Serbia, and Poland all had faster internet speeds.
Ukraine has an average download rate of 11.2 megabits per second, whereas Russia has 13.5 Mbps, Poland has 19.7 Mbps, and Singapore – the leader – is at a brisk 60.4 Mbps.
At the same time, Ukraine has faster internet than Georgia, Belarus, Turkey, Monaco, and Israel. China has one of the slowest internet speeds in the world, 2.4 Mbps, taking 141st place.
The ranking measured the speed of Wi-Fi broadband speeds worldwide from May 2017 to May 2018. Mobile internet speeds were not taken into account.
The study showed a 23-percent rise in average broadband speed worldwide, compared to 2017. It’s now 9.10 Mbps for downloads.
On average, the top 100 countries in the ranking have gained 5.4 Mbps while the bottom 100 has increased by an average of only 0.4 Mbps.
Although compiled and published by Cable.co.uk, the data was collected by M-Lab, a partnership between New America’s Open Technology Institute, Google Open Source Research, and Princeton University’s PlanetLab. The ranking was built on over 163 million individual speed tests in 200 countries.
