Ukrainian swimmer Mykhailo Romanchuk won a bronze medal in the men’s 800-meter freestyle race at the Olympic Games in Tokyo on July 29.

Romanchuk finished at 7:42.33, just around half a second after silver medal winner from Italy Gregorio Paltrinieri. American Robert Finke won the gold in this competition finishing at 7:41.87

Another Ukrainian swimmer Serhii Frolov came in sixth in the same contest.

Romanchuk and Frolov will also compete in the 1,500-meter freestyle qualifying heats on July 30. If they enter the list of eight best athletes, the two will compete for medals in the final on Aug. 1.

Romanchuk is a four-time gold winner in the 400-meter, 800-meter and 1,500-meter freestyle at the European Championships in 2018 and 2021. He also has a gold medal in the 1,500-meter freestyle at the Shourt Course World Championships 2018 on his record.

So far, Ukraine has collected four bronze medals at the Olympics since they kicked off on July 23. Daria Bilodid won a bronze medal in women’s judo, Igor Reizlin was third in fencing,  and Olena Kostevych and Oleh Omelchuk both won bronze in the 10-meter air pistol mixed team contest.

The 2020 Olympics will run through Aug. 8. In Ukraine, local Suspilne Sport online media and UA:Pershyi television channel are broadcasting the events for free.

The Paralympic Games will run between Aug. 24-Sept 5.
