Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, a senior Belarusian opposition politician, has stated in her column for Ukrainian news outlet Ukrayinska Pravda, that the Ukrainian nation is writing not only in its own history, but also in world history on the struggle for freedom, democracy, and human rights.

“Russia will be defeated, and Ukraine will restore its territorial integrity and defend its independence. Throughout this time, Belarusians will support Ukrainians, ” – Tsikhanouskaya stressed.”I am proud of the Belarusians who are fighting in the partisan movement despite the threat of being executed, who are collecting humanitarian aid, who are helping the Ukrainian army and people about the movements of the Russian military.”

Tsikhanouskaya also stated that the Belarusians are not Lukashenko – whom she calls the “disgrace” of her country – who let Putin launch missiles at Ukrainian cities from Belarusian territory, recently announced the joint deployment of Belarusian and Russian forces, and invited more and more Russian troops to Belarusian soil.

“Nobody knows what decision Lukashenka will make or announce tomorrow or the next day. In fact, all his decisions have long been made for him in the Kremlin. And it’s Lukashenka who dragged Belarus into this noose of dependence on Russia,” Tsikhanouskaya underlines.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is the main leader of the Belarusian opposition. Her husband, Sergei Tsikhanouskyi, is a political prisoner and remains behind bars. She ran for president of the country in 2020, and is recognized as the legitimate leader of Belarus by many countries. But in accordance with rigged election results Alexander Lukashenko became president, and not Tsikhanouskaya. She was forced to leave Belarus due to political persecution and remains abroad.
