During a weekend curfew in Mykolaiv, 20 proceedings were initiated and five collaborators detained, according to Vitaliy Kim, head of the Mykolaiv regional military administration.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, many collaborators and saboteurs have been operating in Mykolaiv, helping Russian troops to fire on civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals and residential accommodation.

“I apologize for the inconvenience caused over the weekend, but it was worth it,” said Kim. “About 20 proceedings were registered, five individuals were detained and equipment was found registered fake accounts. We have dealt with one group, which will no longer interfere with us,” he added.

The curfew in question was in place in Mykolaiv from 11 p.m. on Friday, August 5, to 5 a.m. on Monday, August 8.

In an interview with Glavkom, Kim reassured the citizens of Mykolaiv that Russian troops will not be able to capture Mykolaiv in the coming months since the city is reliably protected; furthermore, that successful counterattacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the south of the country now preclude the possibility of a significant advance by the enemy in the region.

He added that the Russians will likely try to reach the administrative border of the Kherson region to record at least some kind of “victory” – in other words to to complete at least something before taking “their next steps.”

The impact of unmanned vehicles in the air, on the ground, and at sea could not have been predicted five years ago but their influence on the Ukrainian battlefield released the genie from the bottle.

“And now… we are slowly reclaiming the Kherson region. So how can the Russians advance when their warehouses and command posts are on fire, and the generals refuse to move beyond the Dnipro?” Kim questioned.

Despite Ukrainian defenders’ strong position in the Mykolaiv region, Kim noted that the authorities are doing everything possible to help citizens evacuate to safer regions. He pointed out that there are currently five open directions by which residents of Mykolaiv can freely leave should they need to.
