“I don’t want to look at Donetsk Shakhtar’s and Dynamo Kyiv’s back, I
don’t want to celebrate the bronze medal in the Ukrainian Cup every
year. I want to hear the anthem of the Champions League at our stadium.
Our goal is to win the championship’s gold within three years and to
bring the European trophy to Kharkiv within five years,” reads
Kurchenko’s statement that has been passed to Interfax-Ukraine.

He recalled that $100 million was invested in the restoration of the
Metalist stadium, including $30 million that were spent by former owner
of the football club, Oleksandr Yaroslavsky, and $70 million was
allocated from the city budget.

“I did not take part in a conflict between the municipal authorities
and Oleksandr Yaroslavsky, but I would like to share my vision of a way
out of the situation. In the near future I will make an official
proposal to the municipal authorities to buy their share and become the
full owner of the stadium, and they could spend these assets on the
city’s and region’s needs,” Kurchenko said.
