“Concerning casualties among the personal staff, to out certain knowledge chief of the State Traffic Inspectorate [in Mariupol] Viktor Sayenko, as well as worker of the patrol service battalion Mykhailo Yermolayenko, died,” the press service of the Mariupol town police department of the Main Directorate of Ukraine’s Interior Ministry in Donetsk region reported on Saturday.

As reported, on May 9, presidential candidate Oleh Liashko wrote on Facebook: “Today the terrorists killed Mariupol traffic police chief Viktor Sayenko…Yesterday he was seriously injured when repelled the terrorist attack on the town council.”

As Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov earlier said one law enforcement officer died and five were injured in Mariupol on May 9 during the counter-terror operation. He claimed the death of about 20 militiamen and the capture of four.

In all, seven people died and 39 sustained injuries in the army operation in Mariupol, the Donetsk regional administration’s health department said.

According to the Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, eight servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been injured during the operation.
