“This year we received five times more resources than in previous
years for the restoration of vessels. Now we are continuing this work,
but we can say that at the beginning of 2013 the fleet will have 11
warships fully ready to perform complex tasks, and keep ten aircraft and
31 supply vessels in working order,” the press center of the Ukrainian
Navy’s command quoted him as saying at an extended meeting of the
Military Council of the Ukrainian Navy on Friday.

The commander also said that the Ukrainian Navy would restore its presence in certain areas of the Black and Mediterranean seas.

Ilyin said that in 2013, as part of an international operation to
combat piracy, the Hetman Sahaidachny frigate, with a helicopter and
special forces on board, would perform tasks near the Horn of Africa.
