“We are concerned about the destiny of our friends, they are both
political activists, patriots, and defenders of Russians and Russian
interests,” The Other Russia said in statement sent to Russian Foreign
Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Russian citizen Dmitry Kolesnikov and Latvian citizen Benes Aio,
whose Latvian citizenship is sought to be taken away, are among
activists detained in Donetsk, the document, released by The Other
Russia press office on Thursday, said.

They want to deport Aio from Ukraine, while Kolesnikov’s fate is unknown, the statement said.

“We are urging the Russian Foreign Ministry to interfere in the
situation – to find out the location of Kolesnikov and to take him under
their protection. It is also necessary to grant Russian citizenship to
Benes Aio,” the document said.

The Ukrainian authorities accuse one of the detainees, Aio, of
preparing an armed overthrow of the Ukrainian government, The Other
Russia spokesman Alexander Averin said on April 2.

The Ukrainian Security Service department for the Donetsk region confirmed Aio’s detention to Interfax on April 2.

“He is in Kyiv now and will be deported from Ukraine,” the Ukrainian Security Service said.

According to the information of the Ukrainian Security Service, the
deportation of Aio is related to his illegal activities in Ukraine.
