“There was a very hot discussion. There is much tension around the issue of putting Sofia Kyivska and Lavra on the list of objects that are under threat. We were warned but were able to defend our place in the UNESCO World Heritage List,” according to Reznikov, who was a member of the Ukrainian delegation at the 40th session of UNESCO in Istanbul.

Reznikov added the question of building at 17-23 Honchara Street is still relevant for UNESCO.

“The monitoring commission will come to Kyiv in autumn, which will check all the buildings in the buffer zone. If violations are not eliminated, the question will once again raised on including these objects in the list of those being under threat at the 41st session to take place next year,” he said.
