An adviser to Ukraine’s interior minister and the former head of the counter-narcotics department at the ministry, Ilya Kiva, openly admitted being a “sexist in the direct sense of the word” in an interview with 112 TV channel on Jan 1.

During his interview, Kiva explained why he was fired in May, 2016 from his position as head of the narcotics department under Khatia Dekanoidze, who herself quit as head of the National Police of Ukraine in November 2016.

“I had a conflict with Dekanoidze. No, I admire her as a beautiful woman, probably a good mother. I just can’t stand a female superior,” Kiva said on Jan.1.

Kiva said a police chief must be taught to “break the backs of those who don’t respect the law.”

Dekanoidze said she had initiated Kiva’s dismissal because of numerous inappropriate statements such as when he wrote on Facebook in March 2016 that homosexuals must be executed for sodomy. In May, 2016 Kiva was transferred to the administration of the Interior Ministry.

“I am a sexist in the direct sense of the word. I think that a man must defend and create the living conditions and a woman must live in those conditions,” he added.

When the female TV host criticized his comments, Kiva told her that “Jesus was also a sexist” and asked her not to overreact as a man has assumed all the hardest duties and agreed to bear the cross.

Kiva explained to the Kyiv Post on Jan. 3 that his sexism doesn’t mean he disrespects women. He said, on the contrary, he respects the fact that women were forced to forget about their hearth keeper roles and “step into men’s shoes.”

“You(women) were forced to forget about your destiny and (instead) defend your children, guided by your maternal instinct,” Kiva said.

Kiva’s daughter Katerina was accepted to study a master’s degree in law in August, 2016 at the Interior Ministry Academy. Asked how he felt about his daughter becoming a ‘defender,’ Kiva said that even in the Interior Ministry there are some professions that demand patience and are good for women.

Kiva also said he blames men for his daughter’s and many other women’s choices.

“A man must be the defender and a strong guardsman, who bears responsibility for his woman. That’s nature! But men have degraded and distorted themselves and turned into women. Just look at all those metrosexuals and homosexuals who fill the streets,” Kiva said.

“I am glad that the war has shown us what the real man must be,” he added.

On Facebook on Jan. 2, Kiva wrote that: “The sexism of Jesus Christ lay in the fact that he is one of the key figures in human history, and it was he who accomplished the feat of redeeming sins, thus permanently separating the role of women. Though they are not less important, they are always secondary to men.”

“And finally – God acted through a man while the devil acted through a woman,” Kiva wrote.

After the Kyiv Post spoke with Kiva on Jan. 3, he further clarified his position in a Facebook post: “Women should not be caretakers, brick layers, politicians and soldiers.”
