A Belarusian citizen who fought with the Russia-led Somali battalion in Donbas and took part in the capture of Donetsk International Airport has been arrested for two months, Prosecutor General’s Office spokesman Andriy Lysenko has said.

Lysenko said on his Facebook page that in November 2014 the citizen of Belarus joined the ranks of the battalion as a tank driver and took an active part in conducting military operations against Ukrainian Armed Forces units in Donetsk region, including the capture of Donetsk International Airport.

The man left in 2015 and returned in 2017, enlisting with Russia-led troops in Kremlin-backed formation, where he took part in attacks against Ukrainian forces.

“On August 10, 2018, to continue his illegal activities, the man arrived on the territory of Ukraine, where he was exposed and detained, thanks to the coordinated and professional work of Ukraine’s SBU Security Service and prosecutors,” Lysenko said.
