Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s wife, Maryna Poroshenko, has been appointed head of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, and the organization’s executive director will be selected through a competition, which is to be held from Jan.22 to Feb.2, the Ukrainian Culture Ministry’s press service has said.

“On Jan.19, Minister of Culture of Ukraine Yevhen Nyshchuk appointed Maryna Poroshenko as chairperson of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. All members of the foundation’s supervisory board voted unanimously for her candidacy,” it said.

“The first meeting of the supervisory board of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation was held on Jan.15. Taking into account feedback from members of the supervisory council, I, with great pleasure, has appointed Maryna Poroshenko as chairperson of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation,” Nyshchuk said.

Maryna Poroshenko, in turn, thanked for great confidence and said she was sure that the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation would contribute to the modernization of the cultural sector, support the cultural development of the communities amid decentralization, promote integration of the national idea within the country.

In addition, she said she expected that the organization would facilitate the development of a creative young generation, support startups and projects, develop research and development, develop ties with the Ukrainian Diaspora and cultivate a positive image of Ukraine in the world.

As was reported, President Poroshenko in April 2017 signed the law on the creation of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
