French President Emmanuel Macron during a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and recalled the importance of progress in resolving the “crisis” in eastern Ukraine, according to the French president’s office.

“With an eye on the summit of the heads of state and government of the Normandy format in September, he [Macron] recalled the common desire for rapid progress on political initiatives and security measures necessary to resolve the conflict in eastern Ukraine,” the office’s communiqué said.

Macron also congratulated Zelensky on the approval by Ukraine’s news parliament of Oleksiy Honcharuk as prime minister.
