[UPDATED: July 14, 9:28 am , Kyiv time. Updated with a report from the DSNS on the consequences of the overnight attack.]

Russia launched a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv in the early hours of Tuesday, causing fires in at least two districts of the Ukrainian capital.

Kyiv Post reporters heard an explosion even before air raid alerts sounded in Kyiv, after which the city’s air defense systems responded to the attack in the capital and other regions.

As many as eight explosions were registered across the city within a matter of minutes. Several reports indicate that Russia fired six to eight modified S-400 ballistic missiles at the capital.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported strikes on warehouse facilities at two locations in the Holosiivskyi district, where fires broke out following the barrage.

In the Darnytskyi district, falling debris landed in an open area and set several vehicles ablaze.

“Russia is attacking Kyiv with ballistic missiles. Stay in shelters,” Klitschko warned as the attack unfolded.

Kyiv City Military Administration chief Tymur Tkachenko also urged residents to remain in protected areas while the missile threat continued.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the affected locations. There were no immediate official reports of casualties.

According to the State Emergency Service (DSNS), a warehouse in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district caught fire after being hit during the attack. The blaze has since been extinguished.

In the Darnytskyi district, several vehicles caught fire in an open area, but firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control.
