President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a statement of condolence on Sunday following the death of US Senator Lindsey Graham, who died on July 11 at the age of 71.

In a statement published on Facebook, Zelensky noted that Graham visited Ukraine 10 times during the full-scale Russian invasion. The president stated the two had maintained a continuous dialogue and held two meetings over the past week.

Zelensky highlighted Graham’s efforts to secure bipartisan and bicameral support for Ukraine in the US Congress. According to the president, Graham was recently working on initiatives regarding sanctions against Russia.

“America and the world have lost a resolute leader,” Zelensky wrote, expressing condolences to Graham’s family and colleagues.

Senator Lindsey Graham dies at 71

Graham’s office announced his death early Sunday, stating he passed away following a “brief and sudden illness.” The senator represented South Carolina since 2003 and was campaigning for a fifth term in the 2026 midterm elections.

Graham’s death occurred days after he concluded a visit to Ukraine. During the trip, he toured a production facility of the Ukrainian technology-defense company SkyFall. The facility manufactures heavy bomber drones, first-person view (FPV) drones, and interceptor systems.

Following the facility tour, Graham advocated for US military cooperation with Ukraine on drone technology.

“I believe that it would be a huge mistake for America not to cooperate with Ukraine in the field of drones,” Graham told journalists following the tour. “They are ready to help us because we were ready to support Ukraine in the hardest times.”
