Four loud explosions were heard on Monday morning, Oct.10, at around 8. 19 am in central Kyiv,

Shortly afterwards the city’s mayor Vitalii Klitshchko confirmed that there had been an enemy attack on the Ukrainian capital hitting its central Shevchenkivsky district.

As the first videos and photos are emerging, further details are awaited. Local official have said that there are human casualties.

According to Serhiy Leshchenko on Telegram, a Russian rocket has struck by the statue of historian Mykhailo Hrushevsky, Ukraine’s leader when it declared independence in January 1918.  His monument is located by the Taras Shevchenko University and next door to the building in which the Ukrainian parliament (Central Rada) met in 1917-18.   If so, this is a strike at the very symbolic heart of Ukraine’s historical, cultural and political heritage.
