The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has determined the need to purchase EM-120 mortars produced by EMCO, Republic of Bulgaria, which are registered with NATO, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has said.

“The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in the context of the need to purchase 120 mm mortars, determined the purchase of 120 mm mortars, namely the EM-120 mortar manufactured by EMCO, Republic of Bulgaria, which, in accordance with the NATO classifier, has a nomenclature number (NSN) 1015-50-000 -8884 and is an analog of the 2B11 mortar, that is in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

As reported, the ministry introduced an open negotiation procedure simultaneously with all manufacturers of defense products, works and services are written in the register, the purchases of which constitute a state secret by the corresponding orders of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine. As a result, the cost of mortars was openly announced, the year of their manufacture was confirmed in 2020, the availability of certificates of quality, conformity, and origin of products registered in the NATO classifier. In addition, the openness of the procurement procedure made it possible to minimize the cost of products, the ministry stressed.

“Today, the ministry continues to work directly with the official representative offices of foreign manufacturers of defense products to confirm the quality and provide guarantees for the delivery time of products,” the Defense Ministry said.
