Sweden will join the United Kingdom and other western nations in training Ukrainian troops in their fight against Russia’s brutal invasion.

The Swedish government will send an estimated 120 military instructors to the UK to provide basic military training for Ukrainian troops who are currently already receiving support there.

Swedish instructors will be in the UK from 12 August to 31 December, with a total of 60 Swedish instructors present at any given time.

The Swedish government’s official website states: “The government has decided that the Armed Forces of Sweden will send instructors to the UK to train Ukrainian citizens in basic military training so that they can serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace welcomes the decision. According to the British MP, Sweden will provide “valuable expertise” as the free world seeks peaceful ways to assist Ukraine.

During a visit to Kyiv on June 17, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, promised Ukraine support in the training of around 10,000 military troops.

The UK has also encouraged additional partner nations to contribute to Ukrainian military training. On Friday, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, Oleksii Reznikov, revealed that Canada had joined the military training program and had deployed up to 225 instructors to the United Kingdom.

Back in July, the UK’s Ministry of Defense aired images of Ukrainian troops training with western military weapons systems.
