The Russian army continued its attacks on Kharkiv on September 8, as retaliation for the successful Ukrainian counteroffensive taking place in Kharkiv Region.
Ukrainian Armed Forces have managed to surround a major Russian army stronghold from the north and south – the town of Balakliya in Kharkiv Region. Advancing Ukrainian units have entered the operational space, threatening to cut off supplies to the entire Russian group concentrated near Izyum. The Russian command is hastily pulling up reinforcements in dangerous fronts, though in its summaries it reports only on successes.

On Tuesday, September 6, reports appeared about a massive attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Balakliya front. Pro-Ukrainian and pro-Russian bloggers as well as propagandists reporting on events south-east of Kharkiv did not contradict one another.
The Russian army continued its terrorist attacks on Kharkiv on Thursday, September 8, as retaliation for the successful counteroffensive being waged by the Ukrainian army in Kharkiv Region.
According to Oleh Synyehubov, head of the Kharkiv military administration, the Russians hit the city at 10 a.m. local time, with one rocket reportedly damaging the administrative building and another hitting nearby ground.
Two men aged 27 and 65 died, and five people were injured. Two of them – a 49-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman – are in serious condition. All necessary medical assistance is being provided to the injured.

Fighting continues around Balakliya, Kharkiv Region. Ukrainian forces are reportedly striving to take the town of Shevchenkove and continue their offensive on Kupyansk. The Russian military is in response reportedly transferring its reserve.
