Six more flying objects with angled reflectors of radio waves were spotted over Kyiv on Wednesday, Feb. 15,

“Aerial targets were detected in the sky over the Kyiv region. As a result air defense kicked into action,” the Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported. “Keep calm and stay in shelters!”

According to Ukraine’s Air Force spokesperson, Yuriy Ihnat, Russia is launching these aerial devices to trick Ukraine’s air defenses into firing missiles and to exhaust valuable supplies.

“The objects detected in the sky of Ukraine are balloons carrying metal reflectors, which are carried by the wind. The enemy used the same ones in previous days,” Ihnat said, speaking on the Kyiv TV channel.

“It’s just a balloon carrying a piece of metal. The Air Force scans the skies of Ukraine 24/7 and conducts radar reconnaissance of space. No one will work on balloons with some powerful means,” Ihnat said.

He noted that such balloons move with the mercy of the wind. Neighboring Moldova was forced to shut down its airspace on Feb. 14, amid reports of an “object similar to a weather balloon” flying overhead.

It’s not clear what the object was, and the government did not clarify. Ukraine’s Air Force did not confirm if it was the same as the objects flying over Ukraine, although Ihnat said it was possible that the balloons could float to neighboring countries.

NATO, Ukraine to Meet Tuesday Over Russian Missile Strike

Vladimir Putin said on Thursday Moscow had hit Ukraine using a new-generation intermediate-range missile -- which he hinted was capable of unleashing a nuclear payload.

Today’s event comes days after Ukraine’s army downed a similar aerial reconnaissance vehicle and balloons with reflectors on Feb. 12.
