Over 2,000 people took to the streets of Kyiv on Sept. 20, joining the global climate strike. Like millions of protesters in over 150 countries, Ukrainians demanded that their government take action to stop the global climate crisis.

“We are the last generation that can do something about the change of climate in the world, which is catastrophic. And I want our government to listen and draft budgets that will provide for green energy,” protester Vitalina Koval, 29, told the Kyiv Post.

According to organizers, the demonstrators came from 20 Ukrainian cities. They marched from Mykhailivska Square to the presidential office, joined by 30 non-governmental organizations. They voiced a list of six demands to the new government and President Volodymyr Zelensky.
