NEWS ITEM: Ex-lawmaker Oleksandr Onyshchenko was detained in Germany on Nov. 29. Onyshchenko fled Ukraine in 2016, escaping charges of embezzlement. Weeks before his arrest, he unsuccessfully tried to buy a horse from a German farm for 500,000 euros, but his payment was frozen in an Estonian bank. Onyshchenko is an equestrian athlete and is accussed of organizing a $125-million fraud scheme in Ukraine’s natural gas sector during his tenture as a lawmaker in former-president Viktor Yanukovych’s Party of Regions..
