You're reading: Song by Ukrainian band becomes soundtrack for ‘Fargo’ series

A song by Ukrainian band DakhaBrakha became a soundtrack for the popular TV series “Fargo” produced by American filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen.

DakhaBrakha’s song “Sho z-pod duba” (From Under The Oak) plays during the last minutes of the second episode in the third season of the criminal comedy-drama series. The episode is called “Unfathomable Pinhead-ery.”

As most of DakhaBrakha’s songs, “Sho z-pod duba” is a modern combination of the musical styles of several ethnic groups.

The third season of “Fargo,” that premiered in April on the cable network FX, has different characters and different story from the ones in the previous seasons. The season focuses on brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy (both are played by Ewan McGregor), whose rivalry turns them into criminals.

Meanwhile, another leading character, recently demoted police chief Gloria Burgle played by Carrie Coon, is trying to solve the murder of her stepfather.

DakhaBrakha is one the most successful Ukrainian bands abroad, they often perform in the European countries and in the U.S. The band also performed “Sho z-pod duba” live at American radio station KEXP and at British channel BBC Two.

The band’s upcoming performance in the U.S. will be in Croton Point Park in New York on June 17. For the detailed schedule of performances in other countries check www.dakhabrakha.com.ua.
