Another major brand, BMW, has joined the list of companies with commercials filmed in Kyiv.
The leading German automobile manufacturer published a video promoting its new car, the 2 Series Gran Coupé, on YouTube on Oct. 16.
Kyiv has become a hot destination for video production over the last several years, with international brands and musicians attracted by costs that are often four or five times lower than in the EU and the United States. International brands including Apple, Google, and Lacoste have also shot commercials in the country.
The BMW ad shows a number of people enjoying the features of the new premium compact class car in locations around Kyiv.
One man uses the car’s gesture control audio system as he listens to music and imagines himself giving a DJ set while driving along the Darnytskyi Bridge.
A young couple has dinner at the fancy restaurant in Countess Uvarova’s Mansion, an eye-catching historical site located in the city center, only to escape in their high-speed BMW after catching dirty looks from the stuffy, conservative clientele.
Instead of staying at the staid restaurant, they opt to eat take-out at the under-construction Podilskyi Bridge, which was also featured in a 2017 ad by the Italian clothing brand Diesel.
The commercial encourages viewers to join the journey of self-expression, and all of its characters appear to defy conventions with eccentric outfits and hairstyles.
“The choices you make are the manifestation of your individuality,” the video’s description on YouTube reads.
