“Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov on behalf of the government offered deep condolences over death of former Foreign Minister of Ukraine Hennadiy Yosypovych Udovenko, a well-known diplomat, an experienced high-rank state official, people’s deputy of Ukraine of the third through fifth convocations, Ukraine’s representative at the UN,” reads the statement of the Information and Public Liaisons Department of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The text of the statement also says that Udovenko made an important contribution to the growth of Ukraine’s international authority, and he was an active statesman respected in the world.

“His life is an example of serving to the Ukrainian people,” reads the statement.
Udovenko was hospitalized at the Feofania Clinic in Kyiv in early February.
Hennadiy Udovenko was born on June 22, 1931. He headed the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine in 1994-1998 and chaired the 52nd session of the UN General Assembly in 1997-1998.
