"This year has been successful because the Ukrainian counterintelligence service has demonstrated its ability to stop the most complex processes – espionage and subversive activities aimed against the state in very serious spheres – diplomacy, military-technological issues and science," head of Ukraine’s Security Service Valentyn Nalyvaichenko told Interfax.
"Seven spies and 16 agents have been exposed this year alone," Nalyvaichenko said.

"We can and need to be proud of this success. We could not have dreamt of it two or three years ago," the official said.
"The special service is successful if it manages to protect state security at the highest level in general, not only in political or one-off situations. It is true that we are respected. We once said that there was no room for certain units of foreign special services in the territory of our country. We have proved that we can keep our promise," he said.
