“The main goal of the project is to spread free knowledge about
Earth’s natural heritage and to develop a caring attitude towards nature
and environmental protection,” the organizers of the project said
during a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine news agency on Thursday.
A photo exhibition of the best works is scheduled after the end of the competition.

Representatives of 20 countries will participate in the contest.
Photos of natural reserve fund objects from participating countries will
be presented at the photo contest.
The contest will be conducted in two rounds: at the national and international levels.
The winners in every participating country will be announce by April
15, while the winners of the international round will be picked by June
28.
There are two nominations in Ukraine: the best photo chosen by the
judges and the largest amount of photos of monuments taken by a single
author.
The judges, drawn from the ranks of famous representatives in
journalism, photography, art, environmental protection and ecology, will
choose 10 best photos in the contest overall and one best photo for
every region of Ukraine.
The awards ceremony will be conducted in Kyiv.
According to the organizers, after being uploaded to Wikimedia
Commons, all the photos are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution
3.0 Unported License that foresees free use, if there’s a link to the
author and the source.
The participation in the contest is free and open both for
professional photographs and amateurs. The obligatory conditions are
that posted photos must be taken personally and uploaded during May
2014.
The NGO Wikimedia Ukraine is the organizers and initiator of the international project.
The first time photo contest “Wiki Loves Earth” was conducted in
Ukraine was in 2013. Right now Ukrainian office of Wikimedia Foundation
is coordinating contest-conducting efforts of other countries.
In 2013, a total of 11,000 photos were uploaded to Wikimedia Commons within the contest and over 380 people participated in it.
According to the organizers, the major goal of the project is
collection of pictures of beautiful corners of Ukraine and the world,
their licensing and opportunity to use the photos in all the projects
conducted by Wikipedia.
