Ukrainian tennis player Lesia Tsurenko reached the third round match at the United States Open Tennis Championships, defeating World No. 2 Caroline Wozniacki on Aug. 31.
Tsurenko, 29, beat Wozniacki with a score of 6-4, 6-2. The match lasted 101 minutes.

Tsurenko is currently 36th in the Women’s Tennis Association ranking.
The first set started badly for the Ukrainian, who trailed 0-2. But she continued with a strong backhand and raised the score to 3-3. The seventh game was the toughest – Wozniacki had three breakpoints but did not see them through. Finally, Tsurenko won the first set with a score of 6-4.
The second set started evenly – both players held their serves, playing good tennis. Then Tsurenko showed her best performance on the tournament and won five games in a row – 6-2.
In the third round of the U.S. Open, Tsurenko will face Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova.
