President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier discussed the energy security of Ukraine and Europe at the meeting.
“The launch of Nord Stream 2 means a significant escalation of threats to Ukraine and Europe. It is important for Ukraine to get a clear international legal mechanism that guarantees security,” the presidential press service of Ukraine said, citing Zelensky.

The interlocutors also discussed support for the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. Zelensky drew the attention of his German counterpart to Ukraine’s expectations in the context of further integration with the European Union and NATO, and also expressed hope for support from Germany.
He said that Germany is an important partner of Ukraine in Europe, with which our state seeks to strengthen bilateral relations.
“Ukraine expects that following the parliamentary elections in Germany, a coalition will be formed that will promote Ukrainian-German relations and support the European perspective for our country,” Zelensky said.
During the talks, special attention was paid to the issue of a peaceful settlement in Donbas. Zelensky said that Ukraine is trying to intensify the work of all negotiation formats to achieve peace in eastern Ukraine and restore sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“We look forward to further effective support from Germany. We very much appreciate Berlin’s mediation efforts within the Normandy format,” Zelensky said.
