As Russia, NATO, and the United States prepare for Jan 10 talks in Geneva, Ukrainian Americans are organizing demonstrations against Russia’s military build-up on Ukraine’s eastern flank.
On Jan. 3, the Chicago branch of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA), the umbrella organization for the Ukrainian American diaspora, announced a rally to take place on Jan. 9 in protest of Russia’s continued military posture.

said Ihor Diaczun, President of the UCCA Illinois Division in a UCCA press release.
Currently, many tens of thousands of Russian troops are massed on Ukraine’s eastern border in what Russia’s President Vladimir Putin now all but acknowledges is a move to pressure NATO to provide Russia with security guarantees that Ukraine will remain within the Kremlin’s sphere of influence.
“These Russian actions also threaten Poland, the Baltic States, and the Black Sea region, all of which are members of NATO, and important U.S. allies,” Diaczun noted in the press release.
The rally will ask U.S. President Joe Biden to stand firm against any further Russian aggression.
