Ukraine’s National Police, Britain’s NCA sign cooperation agreement

National Police of Ukraine Chief Serhiy Knyazev and Director of International Operations at Great Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) Ian Cruxton have signed a cooperation agreement in London.

“We’ve signed a declaration on cooperation between the National Police of Ukraine and the NCA with Director of International Operations at the NCA Cruxton. We have many areas for cooperation, exchange of information and experience, so we have where to go and develop police cooperation,” Knyazev said on Facebook on Feb. 21.

He also said that a meeting was held with leaders in the areas of combating transnational organized crime, cybercrime and economic crimes.

“Unreasonable luxury items and dubious assets show the evolution of the development of new challenges in economic development and, therefore, the work of law enforcement agencies in combating this phenomenon. Our counterparts from the economic crime unit of the NSA direct their efforts to seizing assets whose origin is doubtful or not confirmed. This approach is already working in the disclosure of not only local but also international ‘gray’ capital,” he said.

The issue of protecting children and countering their sexual exploitation was also discussed. In the UK, a registry of pedophiles has been created. Ukraine is trying to do the same.

“To combat crimes against children, our British counterparts use a system similar to that introduced by our cyber police officers. This is a system for automatically detecting content on the Internet with child pornography, which operates on the basis of artificial intelligence. The Cyber Police Department of Ukraine’s National Police is closely cooperating in this direction with U.S. and Australian law enforcement agencies. We are working to ensure that such interaction is now established with us and with our British colleagues,” Knyazev said.
