Roderich Kiesewetter, a member of the German Bundestag and former Bundeswehr general staff officer, has claimed that the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not wish to see Ukraine victorious in the war against Russia.

He said that the reason why the German government did not give the green light to the country’s defense sector to prepare the dispatch of 100 German Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns and Marders infantry fighting vehicles in February is because Scholz is trying to win time.

“I am afraid that the Chancellor does not want Ukraine to win in this war. In the sense that the Russian army is thrown out of Ukraine,” he noted.

Notably, Kiesewetter’s view is echoed by other German public figures.

In a recent interview with Radio NV, Sergey Sumlenny, a Berlin-based expert on Eastern Europe, said that the German elites are afraid of Ukraine’s victory, which would lead to the demise of Russia.

“They know how to deal with a victorious Russia and defeated Ukraine. It is something that corresponds to their worldview. A world without Russia, however, scares them. The demise of the Soviet Union happened, among other things, because no-one had anticipated it. Russia’s collapse, perhaps in the next two-three months, is very well possible, and this scares them as they don’t know what to do in the aftermath,” he explained.

He added that the elites “possess neither the intellectual nor the moral capacity to tame this chaos. They understand that if this happens, it will require the West’s direct military intervention in Russia to take control of the remaining nuclear weapons. They’re unprepared for this. They see that the Ukrainian army has destroyed so much equipment and tanks, which the Bundeswehr does not even have on paper. Were Ukraine to be at war with Germany, the Ukrainians would have defeated the German once or twice already. Naturally, they fear such a force, they don’t know what to do with it.”

The Kyiv Post has likewise drawn attention to Scholz’s odd behaviour, suggesting that there is reason to believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin has compromising materials on Scholz.
