Huge Drone Attack on Kyiv, 26 Intercepted as Explosions Rock Capital

Kyiv was targeted overnight by yet another Russian drone attack, with a series of explosions rocking the capital in the early hours of the morning.

City authorities said a total of 33 drones were aimed at Ukraine, most of them at Kyiv. 26 were downed, according to the military. It did not say what happened to the other eight.

Debris fell in several districts, damaging an apartment in a multi-storey building, as well as road surfaces and power lines, Sergiy Popko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, wrote on Telegram.

One person was injured.

In central Podilskyi district, doctors treated a person suffering from an "acute stress attack" after debris fell in an open area, Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram.

Debris also caused a fire in the city's well-known Sovky Park.

Air raid sirens sounded in Kyiv at 1:15am. Kyiv Post reporters in the centre of the capital heard a series of explosions as air defenses intercepted the drones.

The all clear was given shortly after 3am.

Russia systematically targeted Ukrainian cities early in the invasion launched last year, but massive strikes have become less frequent as Moscow's stockpiles dwindle and Ukraine bolsters its air defences. 

Last month, Kyiv destroyed more than 20 drones and missiles in what it called the “most powerful strike” on the capital since spring.
