Following alarming reports by the head of Ukrainian intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, regarding a potential terrorist attack at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) by Russia, local authorities have taken proactive measures by organizing special training exercises to prepare for such an incident.
The decision was made by the interdepartmental crisis headquarters under the leadership of Energy Minister German Galushchenko.

In an announcement made on June 29, the head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration, Yury Malashko, disclosed that the training session would be conducted within the city of Zaporizhzhia itself and the surrounding region. As a result, temporary traffic restrictions might have to be implemented in specific areas.
Malashko said that the primary objective of the training was to ensure effective coordination among all relevant services in the event of a genuine threat to the ZNPP. He also reassured the public by stating that the situation was under control.
"We kindly request citizens to refrain from unnecessary speculation or dissemination of excessive information regarding the training exercise," wrote Malashko in his Telegram channel.
The day before, during an online speech at the OSCE security review conference, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba expressed concerns about the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the risk of a Russian terrorist attack. He emphasized that this posed a danger not only to Ukraine but to the entire OSCE area.

"Today, Russia poses a threat to Ukraine and the entire OSCE area with the potential of a radiation incident at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Despite Russian propaganda claims, the motivation and means to carry out such an incident lie solely with Russia," Kuleba stated.
