In Kyiv, at a roadblock on Beresteyska Avenue, a judge who is believed to be the head of one of the district courts of the Kyiv region, struck and killed a soldier of the National Guard of Ukraine with his car. This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation on Friday, May 26. 

The agency noted that around midnight on May 26, a judge driving a car ran into a military officer, and as a result of the accident, the National Guardsman died on the spot from his injuries.

The publication RBC-Ukraine, citing its source, reads the National Guardsman saw a car approaching the checkpoint at high speed and was struck as he went to signal the car to stop for a document check. The judge was detained.

"He refused to be examined for intoxication in a health care institution," the State Bureau of Investigations emphasizes.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated over a road traffic accident while suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the victim's death. The case is being investigated under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicants or under the influence of drugs that reduce attention and reaction time, if they caused the death of the victim.

If the judge's guilt is proven, he faces imprisonment for 5 to 10 years (deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for 5 to 10 years).
