As a Ukrainian surveillance drone watched overhead, aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force, which some are speculating were probably Mikoyan MiG-29s, dropped four 250 kg bombs in Bakhmut. The footage was first posted on the Telegram channel Оперативний ЗСУ (Operative AFU) on April 25.

Analysis of the footage indicates that the projectiles were normal aircraft bombs fitted with Ukraine’s American-made, GPS-guided Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM). This is what the strike did a multi-story building complex on the front line in central Bakhmut:
This was not the first time JDAM had been used in Bakhmut. Video footage of a single use of the weapon was posted on the CRUX Youtube channel on March 10. CRUX quoted a Russian spokesman from Donetsk suggesting that this had been a “test run” by the Ukrainian military to confirm the possibility of deploying the weapon from its Soviet-made aircraft.
JDAM is a guidance kit that converts unguided bombs into all-weather precision-guided munitions using a GPS guided inertial guidance system that provides an operational range of up to 28 km.
