The European Commission, as per the norm for countries seeking membership in the European Union, gave seven recommendations to Ukraine to complete – something that Zelensky’s Office has said it plans to accomplish this year.

Deputy Head of the President’s Office, Ihor Zhovkva, said that the plan was to complete the requirements of the recommendations this year.

Zhovka went on to say that, “Ukraine does not stop doing its homework to fulfill seven recommendations which are necessary to move to a new stage of our path towards the European Union.”

Completing European Commission recommendations are often a notoriously burdensome process that can take years for a country to complete.

Since the start of the war, Ukraine has had a strong public shift in favor of European Union membership. Citizens of Ukraine also have become much more positive about the prospects of Ukraine joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Zhukova announced that Ukraine was already about half-way to finishing the work outlined by the EC’s recommendations.

The Deputy Head of the President’s Office said that they were working on the “appointment of two members of the Supreme Council of Justice, the finalization of draft laws on media and national communities. Moreover, the European Commission has already seen this draft law and we have received a number of comments which we are working on.”
