MOSCOW – The First General Court of Appeals will hear on August 4 an appeal against the Moscow City Court ruling which banned and ordered the dissolution of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), the Citizens’ Rights Protection Foundation (FZPG), both founded by Alexei Navalny and recently designated as foreign agents in Russia, as well as the opposition politician’s regional campaign groups known as the Navalny Headquarters, all designated earlier as extremist organizations by court.

“The hearing is scheduled for August 4 at 11:00 a.m.,” the human rights group Team 29, whose lawyers are representing said organizations, told Interfax.

On June 9, the Moscow City Court granted a lawsuit from the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office to brand the FBK, FZPG, and the Navalny Headquarters extremist organizations, banning their activities and dissolving them.

According to the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office, “under the guise of liberal slogans,” the FBK, FZPG, and the Navalny Headquarters “are trying to form the conditions for destabilizing the sociopolitical situation.”

The court decision is immediately enforceable with regard to stopping the activities of these organizations.
