MINSK – The Supreme Court of Belarus has refused to accept a complaint filed by former Belarusian presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya against the Central Elections Commission’s decision on the results of the presidential election in Belarus.

“The opening of a case over the complaint of Tikhanovskaya, Svetlana Georgiyevna, against the decision by the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus for Elections and Republican Referenda, of August 14, 2020 (resolution No. 133), is hereby denied. This determination may not be appealed or protested,” the ruling dated August 24, which was published on August 25, said.

Tikhanovskaya had applied to the Supreme Court after the CEC rejected her petition to cancel the election results, the ruling said.

“Because the Central Commission made no decision to invalidate the election, the complaint of S.G. Tikhanovskaya regarding invalidity of the election is not subject to judicial consideration, such demands being outside a court’s remit,” it says.

On its website the Supreme Court stated that it had ruled likewise on the complaints filed by two other candidates, Andrei Dmitriyev and Anna Kanopatskaya.
