You're reading: Ukrtelecom denies communications disconnect from power supply in Sevastopol

Public joint-stock company Ukrtelecom has denied reports in the mass media that communications facilities in Sevastopol (Crimea) could be disconnected from power supply due to the debt of the operator.

“At present, the company received the required guarantees on stable power supply of its infrastructure from the electricity supplier. In addition, all facilities of Ukrtelecom have self-contained power supply systems, which allows the servicing clients if power disappears,” reads a press release the operator issued on Monday.

Ukrtelecom said that local authorities in Sevastopol and other interested companies will continue discrediting the operation of the company and make attempts of influencing the operation of its infrastructure.

“On the night of Aug. 31, 2014, specialists of Ukrtelecom registered deliberate damage to a fiber-optic cable on the Sevastopol-Saki section. Restoration work was quickly conducted. Now services are provided to subscribers in Sevastopol in full,” the company said.

Earlier Russian mass media published information that Ukrtelecom owes RUR 45 million to Crimean power suppliers due to the impossibility of paying in Russian rubles.
