Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and European Union Council President Herman Van Rompuy, in a phone call on Aug. 25, reached an agreement that "the Ukrainian issue may become the subject for a separate discussion between the heads of state and government of EU countries on Aug. 30," the Ukrainian leader's office said.

“Herman Van Rompuy reaffirmed his readiness to meet with Petro Poroshenko in Brussels on Aug. 30 for a detailed discussion of the situation and the position of the European Union,” the office said in a statement.

Poroshenko called for “joint measures to end the war in the center of Europe,” it said.
