President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said on Sept. 25 that his country should pursue closer ties with the European Union and that Ukraine would ultimately seek membership of the EU.

“EU doors are open for us, I’m deeply convinced of this. A voice of open doors to Europe is sounding louder and louder,” the president said during a display of Strategy 2020 reform program in Kyiv on Sept. 25.

He reiterated a last decision of the European Parliament about a prospective of Ukraine’s membership of the EU, as well as simultaneous ratification of the Association Agreement with Ukrainian and European parliamentarians.

“I’m firmly convinced that these events in Kyiv and Brussels gave us a strong hope, belief that we could soon get a perspective of EU membership. We have a full right to knock on this door,” the president stressed.

However, according to the president, “our revolution has won with a delay of several centuries and we have only a few years to overcome this critical gap”.
