You're reading: Poroshenko calls for trilateral contact group consultations with Minsk signatories

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has met with the participants of the trilateral contact group on the settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine Leonid Kuchma (ex-president of Ukraine), Mikhail Zurabov (Russian Ambassador to Kyiv) and Heidi Tagliavini (OSCE), the Ukrainian presidential press service has reported.

 “The president called on the participants of the trilateral contact group to urgently hold consultations with the signatories of the Minsk agreements, the practical result of which should be decisions on immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of heavy weapons from the contact line as stated in the Minsk memorandum dated Sept. 19, 2014, the formation of specific timeframes for the sides’ return to the said line; restoration of Ukraine’s control over the uncontrolled parts of the Russian-Ukrainian state border in Donetsk and Luhansk regions and organization of permanent monitoring on the border by the OSCE; removing the issue of providing aid and humanitarian assistance to the conflict-hit districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and also considerable progress on the issue of the release of hostages and illegal captives,” the report says.
