You're reading: Mariupol port handles 36,000 tonnes of coal from Australia for steel mills

The Hebei Tangshan bulk carrier (the China flag) has delivered 36,000 tonnes of coking coal from Australia to Mariupol port for local steel mills.

According to the press service of the port, the freight forwarder was Metinvest Shipping.

Australian coal was unloaded in Mariupol port at the 13th berth, using floating cranes. The batch of coking coal was unloaded by port workers during six days and sent by rail to Illich steel mill and Azovstal, part of Metinvest Group.

“Metinvest Group is our major client. In this situation, when other shippers were forced to suspend operations or build new logistics schemes, the group’s enterprise continue to provide us with goods,” Director of Mariupol maritime merchant port Oleksandr Oliynyk said.

As reported, Mariupol port in connection with the fighting in the region and, as a consequence, the destruction of transport infrastructure sees a monthly shortage of Hr 70 million of income.
