You're reading: Energoatom: Generator drop at Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power plant’s unit three is not linked to fuel exploitation

The automatic generator protection system at unit three of Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power plant disconnected the generator at 2:37 p.m. on April 11.

The press service of National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom
said that the most likely reason for the drop in generation was the loss
of generator excitation. The reactor in unit three was unloaded to 10 percent
of its nominal rating power. No remarks on the operation of the reactor
have been reported.

The press service said that the fault was unrelated to the
exploitation of Westinghouse fuel assemblies and only concerns the
operation of electric equipment.

No conditions and limits for safe exploitation during the disconnection of the unit were recorded.

Units one and two continue to work as normal, and radiation remains
levels remain normal at Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP, the press service said.
