The Georgian embassy to Turkey has issued a note of protest to the Turkish Foreign Ministry over a recent visit of Turkish officials to Abkhazia, Georgian Ambassador to Turkey Irakly Koplatadze told journalists on Thursday.

“Our Turkish partners explained to us that an election campaign is currently under way in Turkey, and some parliamentary candidates from Turkish regions where Abkhazians reside traveled to Abkhazia from Sochi to get their votes in the elections,” Koplatadze said.

At the government level, Turkey “unambiguously supports Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.
