Chrystia Freeland: Putin’s brittle Iron Curtain
This is a week of geopolitical paradox: We are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the peaceful fall of the Berlin Wall even as we watch Vladimir Putin's violent efforts to erect a new Iron Curtain further east. The news that dozens of Russian tanks and truckloads of troops have crossed the border into Ukraine resurrects dark and distant memories, the historical nightmare of Hungary in 1956, and Czechoslovakia in 1968.
